General Debate statements

70 statements to the General Debate since 1956, 214,195 words in all. The longest was 1969, at 5,364 words, delivered by Mr. MORO.

Of the 32 statements since 1994 whose speaker’s post the record gives: Minister for Foreign Affairs ×11, Prime Minister ×10, President of the Council of Ministers ×7, Deputy Prime Minister ×2. Earlier years are excluded because UN records do not consistently identify a speaker’s post before 1994, and counting those years as though they did would make any state look as though it sent nobody senior.
